  1. Hi Toochi,
I agree with you about not wanting to get VCs involved too early in your business. Honing your craft first is definitely the way to go!

  2. Toochi,

I wholeheartedly agree with you about your last point, being prepared for the potential investor. I firmly believe that knowing your numbers is more than half the battle. It would be terrible to enter into a casual conversation at a cocktail party with an unknown individual. Before you know it, they are asking you for more details about the business you just described to them. Not having the clear ability to express that information could shut a door before it had the chance to open further.

How great would it be to be prepared for the situation just described and know all of your information and then transition this unknown person into an investor all because you knew what you were supposed to know – your business details. One’s level of knowledge might just change the nature of how the investor will ultimately become involved.

  3. Toochi,

I totally agree with your statement that it’s not just about the money. When founders decide to involve venture capitalists in their businesses, they need to remember that the make-up of their BOD’s and partnerships just changed. This is a major decision that can have a life-changing impact for years to come. This a decision that needs to be well-thought out. Good information.

    Thank you,
